Just In: Alban Bagbin Becomes Speaker Of The 8th Parliament Of Ghana


Former Member of Parliament for Nadowli Kaleo, Hon. Alban Bagbin has become the Speaker of Parliament for the 8th Parliament in Ghana.

Rt. Hon Bagbin was nominated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to go against the New Patriotic Party’s choice, Hon. Mike Oquaye Snr who was the Speaker of the just ended 7th Parliament.

After a closely contested elections between the two, Rt. Hon. Bagbin polled 138 votes while Rt. Hon Mike Oquaye polled 136 votes, with one votes rejected.

Mr. Bagbin’s victory to become the 3rd most important person in the country is seen as major win for the NDC as the party can apply an absolute check on the executive via him.

The Rt. Hon Speaker assumes this new role with a wealth of experience that includes close to 3 decades of serving as a legislator for Nadowli Kaleo in the Upper West Region of Ghana.
