The Electoral Commission will start compilation of the new voters register in the last week in June 2020. This new date is as a result of the dreaded corona virus disrupting the earlier plans which was initially set to commence on the 18th of April 2020.

Many have been calling on the EC to forgo the compilation due to the virus, whiles others wondered if the general election will even come off given the current global crises.

However, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and 12 other parties have maintained their stance that the voters register is bloated and hence a new register should be compiled.

The NDC sees the new register as a waste of time and taxpayers money, as they see nothing wrong with the existing one.

With majority of the political parties in favour, the EC has moved to conduct the exercise despite “Mr. Corona” still around.

The Electoral Commission has procured the necessary equipment, including over 8500 Biometric Voters Register Kits (BVRs); EC will register about 16.5 million Ghanaians within 38 days.

Below Is How the EC Will Conduct The Registration:

When Will The Registration Start?

Registration will begin in the last week in June and end in July; 7:00am to 6:00p.m each day.

How Will It Be Done?

It will be done simultaneously in all districts nationwide unlike how the Ghana Card registration was done.

Per EC, letters have been written to the security agencies to assist in the registration by giving protection to the materials as well as the applicants and officials.
